Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Silverlining — 09 Sep 2016
Don't Breathe was more of an intense thriller than a scary horror movie. Today, horror movies are weak with their jump scares and dumbass characters. This feature really impressed me with its well executed script to a somewhat adequate plot.
The scenes made this movie more heart racing. Fede Alvarez was as genuine as he directed Evil Dead. Stephen Lang was as great as his role of Colonel Quaritch in Avatar. Jane Levy was as amazing as she was in the Evil Dead remake, since this is her second collaboration with Alvarez.
Dylan Minnette was as exceptional as he was in Prisoners. This movie has a lot of disturbing moments, surprise attacks (like when we discover the Blind Man is a psychopath), and **** up twists-and-turns that leave you breathless.
I enjoyed the scene where the Blind Man shuts off the lights in the garage leaving Levy and Minnette blind. What's impressive about this scene is that we see what the actors look like when they're in a room that is pitch black.
The twist about the Blind Man was so **** up that I don't want to share it in this review. Overall, I enjoyed this movie. Don't Breathe is a suspenseful game of survival in the dark where one breath taken can cost the players their lives.
