Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Jack H — 03 Jul 2018
I'm not a fan of modern horror films, but my wife brought this home from the library so I figured there was nothing to lose. There was; 85 minutes.
If a movie wants me to get engaged, it has to have protagonists you can sympathize with. Everyone in this film is completely despicable. Who, exactly am I supposed to relate to? The three burglars? Just because they're young, poor and have had hard lives gives them no right to do what they were doing. They should have all been in jail. Their victim? I was rooting for him until we learned what was in the basement. After that I was just waiting for them all to die so it would be over. It sure felt a lot longer than 85 minutes. How many times can you watch someone be clubbed with a steel wrecking bar or hit in the head with a six-pound sledge hammer and wonder why they aren't dead after the first blow?
If you're a horror fan and don't care about such things, then maybe add a star or two since it is very well made and creepy. Just not for me.
