Review of Donnie Darko (2001) by Fawn R — 05 Oct 2013
Well, literally one of the best movies I've watched. This movie ushered in the "think about it" sort of genre of movies. The symbolism is overwhelming. The plot is simply amazing and unique to any other movie.
Combined with many creepy scenes and a touch of rude humor! I've always said that a movie is at least somewhat successful if it makes you think even the slightest. I'm talking after you see the movie you ask yourself "What if?" or "How?" or "What did this mean?" This means the most important elements of the movie (the plot, characters, and setting) have done their job.
"Donnie Darko" did this, and really just kept on going ushering in a new way of making a movie. And did I tell you this was an independent film? Yes, the budget for this film was minimal, yet still deliver as in my opinion a classic.
If you're wanting to find a movie to compare "Donnie Darko" to, think Sixth Sense. The similarities are tremendous. Overall, "Donnie Darko" should be heralded as one of the greatest independent films of all time, and is certainly underrated in the land of cinema.
A must-see for any moviegoer.
