Review of Donnie Darko (2001) by Phillip D — 26 Jun 2015
I guess Donnie Darko is like marmite u either love it or hate it! I fall into the latter category, I really love this film! but saying that I've always had a soft spot for those strange, hypnotic weirdly surreal movies e.
G. movies by directors like David Lynch and David Cronenberg. Recently the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre has been used as a vehicle to explore mental illness e.g. (Twelve Monkeys, K-PAX, The Butterfly Effect and I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK) so this movie has a lot going for it in terms of understanding how one with mental illness might view the world around them and understanding is the first step towards exceptence and empathy, and for this it's in a league of its own, watch if u liked 'The Butterfly Effect'.
