Review of Donnie Brasco (1997) by Matthew W — 03 Jul 2009
The best example of a cop going undercover in cinema, the subtleties to the relationship between "Donnie" and "Lefty" are what drive this movie. Depp is great (And I retract my "Public Enemies" statement; Joe is probably his best character ever) and Pacino is terrific, giving his finest performance since Godfather I and II (No "Hoo-Ha!"s for this Pacino.
) Some supporting cast members, such as Madsen, are good but just play their roles by the numbers. The only problem with this movie is that the score is terrible, especially for the crime genre.
