Review of Donnie Brasco (1997) by Ohad A — 29 May 2010
Perhaps not the best picture ever made, but this is without doubt my all time favorite. The true story of FBI agent Joe Pistone (Donie Brasco) who infiltrated the New York mafia for six years is perfectly put together by director Mike Newell. In order to get inside, Donnie Brasco (Johnny Depp) targets 'Lefty' (Al Pacino), a mob member who has a tough time in the mafia and cannot move up in rank. After entering the big scene through Lefty, Donnie gets involved too deep within the mafia and consequently detached from his real life outside the crime organization.
The movie and all actors involved are perfectly combined to tell the extraordinary story of an FBI agent who takes an undercover job without expectations; but once inside, he finds a friend, something he had never predicted, and getting out will results in his friend's death.
Great cast, memorable dialog, fantastic performances mainly by Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. This movie is about survival, success, and strong bonds; it's a perfect example of our daily lives.
