Review of Donnie Brasco (1997) by Moz G — 19 Jan 2011
Donnie Brasco is one of the rare and true crime dramas that have all the right ingredients. Johnny Depp and Al Pacino are a brilliant duo in this film. The real life story about an FBI agent who gets lost in his dangerous undercover life is a fine example of man becoming a product of his environment.
The more connected Donnie Brasco gets to the mafia the more disconnected he becomes from his family. Pacino in particular lights up the screen as a down on his luck aging mobster who garners a surprisingly level of sympathy.
This is a fairly deep movie where the lines of right and wrong are blurred by our empathy.
