Wonderfully acted and written, this enticing drama tells the true story of FBI agent Joe Pistone and his lengthy undercover work infiltrating the mob as "Donnie Brasco." While at times it can come off as strangely whimsical, it has the heart of a thrilling gangster film that titans such as Coppola, Scorsese and De Palma have worked to bring to audiences over the years.
It certainly works from a blunt set of blueprints and director Mike Newell catches the film's captivating plot with precision. Pacino and Depp are great together.
