Review of Donkey Punch (2008) by Benjamin J — 20 Apr 2009
As far as dumb horror suspense movies go, this one is actually quite good. The pacing, cast, and concept are evenly matched, and though it's completely ludicrous, it's also entertaining and strangely hilarious (not the incident the title refers to, but the incidents which follow).
The hilarity is actually intentional - I think. If you like sex, drugs, gore, and suspense, this is a good option. The gore is mostly funny - this coming from a slightly gore-sensitive viewer. Only turned my head twice and fast-forwarded once.
This film would also play very well into a gender studies course, which again - I THINK is intentional but regardless, it does give you something to think about. Oh - and one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a long time, even with that tired Peter Bjorn and John song!
