Review of Domino (1988) by Jason D — 28 Jan 2009
Random Side Note: Now, I really enjoyed The Wrestler, but I do not understand why everyone is saying this displays Mickey Rourke in top form and serves as his ultimate comeback film. Clearly, these people have missed Sin City, Once Upon A Time in Mexico, Spun, Man on Fire, The Pledge, and Domino.
Anyways, Domino is the story of Domino Harvey(Keira Knightley), daughter of actor Laurence Harvey, occasional supermodel, and bounty hunter. She goes against what was fun and popular in the 90's and joins two rough seasoned bounty hunters (Mickey Rourke and Edgar Ramirez who are both terrific in this). Along the way, their popularity increases and they get a TV show deal, but then the ultimate heist is pulled and everyone gets drawn in, regardless of if they wanted to be in or not. It's a complete mess and sporadic film, but I loved every minute of it. It has a HUGE and enjoyable ensemble cast, and Knightley is actually pretty good in this one, as is everyone else (including the 90210 guys who poke fun at their semi-failed success). Great popcorn film from director Tony Scott.
