Review of Dominion: Prequel to The Exorcist (2005) by Leon S — 02 Dec 2007

I've recently changed my mind regarding this one. Exorcist: The Beginning is still the more enjoyable of the two (for sheer 'dumb' value) but - despite 2 forgivable if extremely poor cgi effects - Dominion is the better film in terms of acting and character development.

Of course, the fact that it's utter hokum makes Merrin's quest to rediscover his faith meaningless (and rather too easy, it has to be said). All the horror elements are bungled but the tormented characters, visual grandeur and excellent performances make it a worthwhile film.
