Review of Dolores Claiborne (1995) by Christopher B — 07 Oct 2007
Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has to hold on to. Gruelling and extremely well acted movie. Jennifer Jason-Leigh does her tortured bit well and Kathy Bates is great as the "did-she-do-it?" mother.
Judy Parfitt is superlative as Vera. (Vera. I insist all women having hysterics in my drawing room call me by my first name.) The use of landscape and colour (and lack of it) make for highly atmospheric film, although not one that many people might choose to see given the themes.
