Review of Dolores Claiborne (1995) by Nick T — 09 Oct 2012
After the success of Misery, Kathy Bates tried her hand at another film based on a Stephen King novel. This book, however, was one of the most boring of all time and very different from King's usual fare.
It's a character drama, about an estranged mother and daughter brought together by the mother's implication in her employer's death. The ubiquitous dust bunnies from the book where thankfully absent from the film, which had some success at developing a certain depth out of the main characters' painful reminiscences.
Bates was quite good, but I find Jennifer Jason Leigh to be a distracting and inconsistent actor.
