Review of Dogville (2003) by Leah V — 31 May 2009
A film as cruel as it's characters. I don't usually put myself through movies as long as this unless there's some reason for it. I didn't want to be satisfied with the ending, but I really was.
The minimalist, staged setting added to the discomfort for some reason, even though it exposed the artificiality. Say what you want about Von Trier, but this film conveys cruelty and evil in a way that is hard to take, but completely successful.
