Review of Dog Soldiers (2002) by Michael V — 14 Dec 2011
It isn't easy finding a good werewolf movie. And I was hesitant watching this one when it first came out because of the cheap Sci-Fi channel feel about it. But years later it still remains to me one of the best werewolf movies out there.
the movie got me out of my seat with excitement and enjoyment at the action and the thrills. You can find better looking movies out there then this but that was the director's intention. He didn't you to go ooooo and ahhhhhhhh over how it looked.
The main focus was on the story and characters. The script is excellent for this very fact, but the actors lend a tremendous effort too. Sean Pertwee is a sadly under used talent, and he shows his colors here flying through scenes with the greatest of authority, and he's very well followed through by the rest of the soldier cast who all just seem so natural in their roles.
Which is because they casted actors who are ex-military to give it that more authentic feel. Kevin McKidd is excellent. I'll always remember him as Tommy from Trainspotting. Ladies, you'll know him from Grey's Anatomy and gamers will recognize his voice from the Modern Warfare series.
A true talent who hasn't had much chance to shine.
