Review of Dog Day Afternoon (1975) by Javier A — 09 Apr 2011
RIP Sidney Lumet, the director, who died a couple of days ago. He directed excellent films such as 'Serpico', 'Murder on the Orient Express', 'The Verdict', 'Equus', 'Network', 'Running On Empty' and even 'The Wiz'! But 'Dog Day Afternoon' is my favourite.
It's one of the best films of the '70s. Al Pacino is superb and he has some fine support from Charles Durning, James Broderick (Matthew Broderick's father), Carol Kane and Oscar Supporting Actor nominee Chris Sarandon.
Winner of a well-deserved Best Original Screenplay Oscar. This is the first time I've seen it on blu-ray and it looks great.
