This is without a doubt one of the most intense and crazy movies I have ever watched. The fact that this bank robbery scene actually happened is what makes the movie more compelling to watch, especially the fact that it happened in Brooklyn, New York 1972, and where else better to have a crazy bank robbery in New York, where the most impossible happens. Al Pacino gives without a doubt one of his most best and iconic performances ever in Sidney Lumet's "Dog Day Afternoon." Sidney Lumet is no joke of a director, after wtaching "Serpico" today I thought I would give "Dog Day Afternnoon" another shot since I had mixed feeling about it when I first saw it, but I was just a kid then driven on action flicks, but now seeing it as a young adult I can say this is without a doubt one of the best movies EVER made. The time period for the film is captured so well and the performances between Pacino, John Cazale (Who always amazes me) Chalres Durning has the New York hostage negotiator to even Chris Sarandon who plays Pacino's gay lover Leon, to hell even having Lance Henricksen as the FBI agent that drives Pacino, Cazale and the hostages to JFK Airport with the rtest of the hostages is enough for me as a movie buff to love this movies especially since it is so well directed by Sidney Lumet who I desperately have to start getting into after watching "Dog Day Afternoon" again. This is a movie that keeps you glued to your seat from beginning to end and truly deserves to be in the ranks of the 100 best Hollywood movies ever made. This was made during ther Golden Age of Hollywood as I truly believe the 60's and the 70's was the best time for movie making as so many memorable movies came out around then. "Dirty Harry," "Apocalypse Now," "The Godfather Part 1&2" "Saturday Night Fever," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," but that's just the 70's but you get the point. But there is something about "Dog Day Afternoon" that just sticks in the back of your mind when you watch it because it truly is a remarkable film and deserves to be one of the best American movies ever made and no one can take anything from that....not even the FBI.
