What really struck me about this movie was the theme of entrapment. Everyone in this movie is trapped. The hostages are trapped in the bank. Sonny's boyfriend is trapped in a man's body. Sonny is trapped in his marriage.
General society represented by the crowd outside the bank is also trapped by the class system.
