Dog Day Afternoon brings about many societal issues while making for a thrilling and comedic robbery film. Al Pacino is flawless, and you can really buy the fact that his character is so popular with the crowd.
Sonny's life is shown to be so much more complicated than viewers realize, and it covers many topics even sensitive in this day and age. On the surface, it's an exciting hostage negotiation that takes many interesting turns.
Underneath, it shows how people really think and how fear and paranoia can affect even the most seemingly calm. Either way you look at it, you can't help but be impressed.
