Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Steve C — 08 Jun 2008
A grand epic romance from David Lean. It has pretty much all of Lean's traits as a director: lengthy story, wide shots, beautiful cinematography, and a tight focus on a troubled protagonist. Although not quite as exceptional as LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962), Doctor Zhivago is still of one Lean's better films in his career.
The story is well drawn out, the acting good all around, and has the classic storytelling feel of Golden Age cinema. I give this film a good recommendation. It's long, but very involving.
