Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Christine B — 17 Jun 2008
It took me two sittings to get through this epic classic and because I'm not that familiar with the history of the Russian Revolution I didn't really understand the background politics in it and they weren't explained terribly well.
I'm not into it enough to watch the commentary on the DVD or all the special features either. I loved the scenery, found the story engaging enough, but really didn't like the music and found Omar Sharif's acting wooden and his character's development rather poor.
Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin and Rod Steiger were all exceptionally good in their roles but I found this movie to be more depressing than romantic. I'll read the book someday and will hopefully get a lot more out of it.
