Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Cesar C — 17 Jun 2009
After so many years, this film still boasts some of the best photography and filming locations I've seen: it is visually gorgeous. Although I am not a fan of socialism, the movie has the feeling of a having been an artistic weapon used to highlight the worst of the Russian Revolution.
In regards to the plot, and judging without having read the book, for such a long movie the story is a little unconclusive and the hero is sometimes too hard to bear. Also, the relationship between the female leads in the movie is so unrealistic it is a little disturbing.
Considering the performances, I think Omar Sharif did a great job bringing to life such a romantic character. Geraldine Chaplin was excellent. Despite it its length, I was never bored watching.
