Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Tom A — 16 Aug 2011
Too long. I don't say this often, but they should have cut out more of the book. The panoramic scenes echo but certainly don't eclipse Laurence. I thought that a couple of the characters are overly demonised and I don't think Alec Guinness' character and narration add much.
But Sharif is hugely loveable (too much so for some) and wins the film over the line.
