Review of Doctor Zhivago (1965) by Kisaan T — 28 Jun 2012
I just paused a movie, which I am a shame to say that it's my first viewing, being a movie buff, I should be ashamed to say that I put off watching the famous Doctor Zhivago for so long.
I waited to be alone and in the right mood. The movie start with an overture, very famous in those days. Out of respect, I decided to just listen to the 7 minute long overture, and let myself be embraced in the time and the place where the movie is taken me. I am struck by the colors, the music, and then came the actors, a story of Russia, love, snow and revaluation. cinematography is out of this world. But wait, this is not a movie review...
The movie reminded me of those days when the world was big, when the news took months to travel, when traveling meant an adventure, when the travelers stories intrigued the listeners imagination.
I start to think about the grandmothers who told me how much they loved this movie.and how, to them, represent the ultimate love story.
Then I start to remember those days when I met those grandmothers, back in the states days. I remember attending a similar movie, the Lawrence of Arabia, I was at the cinerama in Seattle, the movie started at midnight, finished at 4 am. I remember how the movie took me far in years and miles, same as this movie I'm about to watch.
Unfortunately those grandmothers have passed away, but I still remember how excited they were about this movie. Now I feel they about to tell me a story from beyond the grief. As if they are telling me "you will love it"... I found myself smiling and telling myself I know I will....
"Let's hit play!".
