Review of Doctor Who (1996) by Mark M — 31 Jul 2008
I've just spent the last 15 months watching every Doctor Who episode (that still exists) from the original series. In a nutshell, 1963-1979 was great, 1980-1985 was quite good, and 1986-1989 was awful!
After four years of garbage this was pure joy. A great new Doctor, some fabulous sets, some genuine edge-of-your-seat moments, a companion who can act again and a new, and very effective, Master (not just a bad 'clone', like Roger Delgado's pale immitator, Anthony Ainley).
Maybe just watching this on its own wouldn't make it seem so good, but after years of truly terrible Doctor Who stories, it was great that it finally had a 'bang' to go out with rather than a 'whimper'.
