Review of DOA: Dead or Alive (2006) by Brent M — 29 May 2010
Surprisingly fun martial arts movie with a nice dose of silly humor. Think of Streetfighter and Mortal Combat mixed with the new Speed Racer and Charlies Angels.
Basically, a group of top level fighters are recruited in a 10 million dollar prize championship called DOA. In reality Eric Roberts (in his full evil & cheesy gloriousness) is using it to study them so he can produce the ultimate fighting weapon.
It's the fighters that are fun to watch, the director and writer did a decent job in stereotyping them, but balancing them so theyr'e not ridiculous parodies. My favorite characters were father and daughter contestants, super wrestlers, The Armstrongs. Think Hulk Hogan and Daisy Duke. Jamie Pressly is known from My Name is Earl and the dad Kevin Nash is a WWF wrestler. Devon Aoki is also one of main characters, loved her in Sin City and DEBS.
Watch it for lots of wire fighting action, sexy girls kicking ass, and fun cheesy goodness!
