Review of Do the Right Thing (1997) by Peter D — 30 Nov 2011
Do The Right Thing certainly is a memorable film experience. The way it tells its story in a formalist was is extremely unique. In most movies about racial issues, the antagonist is a specific racist person who ends up getting his/her comeuppance in the end.
However, since there is no specific protagonist or antagonist, the characters have to deal with a "villain" that is a non-physical entity, making the story even more intense. Spike Lee certainly did a fine job directing this film and incorporating the elements of time, space, and language into a well-written story he also wrote.
The actors all did a fine job bringing this world to life, and really making you feel for them even if they are considered to be stereotypes. Overall, Do The Right Thing is another film that deserves its place in the National Film Registry.
