A mysterious and former Union soldier named Django (Franco Nero) arrives in a Mexican border town dragging a small coffin behind him. When he attempts to save a woman who is being attacked by a group of bandits, he finds himself in the middle of a conflict between Mexican gangsters led by General Hugo Rodriguez (Jose Bodalo) and racist Yankee thugs led by Major Jackson (Eduardo Fajardo), with the innocent townspeople and a fortune in Mexican gold stuck somewhere in between. Django becomes a force to be reckoned with when it's discovered his coffin actually contains a Gatling gun...

I reckon this is a movie one should see, belonging to the classic italian spaghetti westerns of the 60s. As with Sergio Corbuccis other movies, "Django" is as well quite patchy, has poor acting, poor dramatic structure and over the top violence. I reckon the story is there, but with voiceovers and a general B-movie feeling makes "Django" nothing more than just a retroish B-movie in my book. Which it is. The movie has its moments for sure, but one view is enough for me. And I really enjoyed the excellent theme song "Django" performed by Rocky Roberts.
