Review of Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006) by Brooke H — 09 Mar 2008
Yah, that's right, stick it to the man!!! Well.... Kudos to the Dixie Chicks for speaking out, for sure. But as this documentary shows, they (/Natalie Maines) are kind of shit-disturbers, BUT that being said, free speech is free speech, and right on.
Being not a country fan and in Canada, this issue didn't effect me when it came out, accept that I thought the Dixie Chicks were a little of alright for saying what they did. This documentary is well done for sure, and gave me a chance to sample their music without actually having to make the effort to listen.
It held my attention and is quite interesting. However, being left wing, in my beliefs, I could still see that this documentary was one sided, but what doc isn't. And there was a kind of a story arc too, that reached a climax a bit too early and seemed to drag on at the end.
Overall it was pretty decent and enjoyable.
