Review of Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing (2006) by Claudette W — 11 Apr 2008
Engaging enough & a great showcase for the Chicks' music. But I expected it to dig deeper: into politics, art, commerce, media, celebrity, public relations & freedom of speech. Instead, it is all very safe and very endearing.
We get occasional, subtle hints at the tension between the girls through the firestorm of controversy, but before it develops into any meaningful exposition, the film cuts to another recording session.
Great material, but many lost opportunities, could have been so much so much better.
