Review of Divergent (2014) by Michael P — 13 Jun 2015
Another movie based off of a teen novel series in which society divides people into factions, with the protagonist being divergent (multiple factions) so she will never fit into a single faction.
After watching something like Under The Skin (2013) the mysteries of the film slowly unravel in your mind and you realise how brilliant it was. After something like The Imitation Game (2014) you think back fondly on the great times the film gave you and how great the people who made the film were. After watching Divergent if you think about the film it gets worse. Unless you shut your brain down while watching this film, it is one of the worst. Because I shut my brain down, I did not hate myself while watching this film. If anything, it does have some great actors (Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Titus Pullo from Rome (2005)) but that's it.
I cannot compare this film to the book, but the storyline of the film was pretty dull. This film is aimed at a younger audience, so if you are that age you may very well enjoy this movie - but I did not.
