Review of Divergent (2014) by Filippo S — 11 Sep 2015
Better than an episode of Jerry Springer, but not by much. Weak, naive, and predictable. The usual story of very pretty boys and girls, beyond stupidly naive, being led by their noses by stunningly malevolent forces with stunningly short-sighted plans and goals.
Seriously, if someone were to try to rule the world like this for real, then they'd be well-served to do what the villains - and, apparently, the author as well - never did: study some frickin' history.
All the dogma of the Not enough violence. Not enough sex. And not enough imagination to make up for the lack of the former two. I'm not surprised it's written by a Christian; it's exactly the kind of pablum that the religulous mistake for deep philosophy.
I'd've given it zero stars, but for the two leads, who have chemistry and seem to actually pretend to care.
