Review of Disturbia (2007) by Dominic M — 21 Feb 2012
A contemporary take on Hitchcock's classic "Rear Window," "Disturbia" is a sometimes-thrilling, sometimes-funny story about a housebound delinquent (Shia Labeouf) that witnesses his mysterious neighbor's involvement in murders.
I can honestly say that this is Labeouf's star-making performance; propelling him from small movies to blockbusters like Transformers. With good reason too. This movie shows his versatility as an actor - even IF you still can't shake Louis Stevens from your mind.
The plot of "Disturbia" is paced extremely well. When there IS downtime from the thrills, it's usually funny or romantic. It avoids a lot of the problems with modern thrillers by being just quirky enough to forgive its predictability. You'll see pretty much every event coming from a mile away, but the movie presents itself so well that you'll have a great time nonetheless.
I'd definitely recommend this to any Shia-fans, or any Horror/Thriller fans. Considering that it's one of the best examples of the genre in the past couple years, it could never hurt to give "Disturbia" the attention it deserves.
