Review of District 9 (2009) by Moritz H — 20 May 2014
District 9 is probably one of the best directorial debuts in all of film history.
This film was an incredible sci-fi movie. It was original, and has so many different things to learn that you stay invested throughout the whole movie.
This film takes place in present-time, in Johannesburg, South Africa, in which a large space craft lands that contains a colony of millions of these aliens that are starving and sick. The U.S. government moves these aliens out of their ship into District 9, which is a sanctioned area of Johannesburg made for the aliens to live separately from humans as agencies of the government are exploring the aliens' weaponry and technologies.
I don't know much about the actors in this film besides Sharlto Copley who made his acting debut in this film, and had a very successful role as the protagonist in this film.
This film is a heavy R-rated movie. It has near constant use of a particular word starting with the letter F, and a few sexual references. This movie is also very gruesome. People and aliens are shot, and exploded by alien weapons in detail. People loss limbs and aliens rip apart humans, literally. There are also some gruesome alien corpses found in a government testing laboratory.
District 9 is a fantastic sci-fi film that will be remembered for a long time.
