Review of District 9 (2009) by Daniele C — 15 Apr 2015
It could have been an intense sociopolitical analysis with the aliens representing not the usual threat to fight with lasers and spaceships but a reflection on how the subject of "the stranger" is faced nowadays by humankind.
In the end Blomkamp is not brave enough to follow his bold storyline and prefers to play it safe with some more common and audience-friendly topics such as weapons, power and biotech. A missed opportunity for a greater movie, but still a quite good product, especially when compared to the cheap, standardized sci-fi productions that pollutes our theatres.
