Review of Disgrace (2008) by Lauri L — 25 Apr 2010
A very ambitious film based in Africa. The writer was born in Africa and she always wanted to make a movie there. Of course it was written as a script for a book, like many other films, but the beginning and end product for Disgrace was phenomenal.
Disgrace is about a man, David, who lives a very controlled life, as a University professor, and then suffers a disgrace. His life falls apart and he goes to the country where his daughter is living. Then a whole other range of incidents take place there which are outside his control totally.
And he is forced to confront life at its harshest. There is an element of hope through Lucy and the exact opposite for her father, David. Lucy has to face the reality of where she lives, by choice, and the hardships that follow.
Isolated from even the closest smallest town, all except for her handy-man that shares the land with her, she stays quite positive and content. I say that this has a level to Karma to it. For his wrong actions, he is confronted with problems he can't control.
