Review of Disgrace (2008) by Hanna S — 08 Oct 2011
Coetzee's powerful allegory of the power transitions in the new South Africa presents an ugly tale against a beautiful backdrop - the mountains of the Eastern Cape. Highest praise for all concerned, if only for allowing those who may have been understandably reluctant to put themselves through the agony of reading the novel, the briefer agony of watching this.
If however, like me, you find having your heart artificially warmed or your soul forcibly uplifted by the trite mechanics of Hollywood, this film will not offend.
