Review of Dirty Harry (1971) by Kristen N — 22 May 2010
"Anyone can see I didn't do that to him. How? Because he looks too damn good, that's how." Although Harry Callahan was in several sequels, I think this is by far the best one (Sudden Impact is my second favorite).
The setting of San Francisco in the early '70's and Lalo Schifrin's funky, yet minimalist, score are great. Andrew Robinson's Scorpio is such a great bad guy too. He looks like such a nice young man, but, like a rabid dog, you know he's completely out of his mind (you can tell the kids on the bus are actually terrified of him at the end).
And of course, Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry. A lonely man who wants to do the right thing but is not going to put up with crap from ANYONE while doing it. No one can look simultaneously angry and confused like Clint Eastwood.
