Review of Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004) by Manny C — 11 Mar 2011
In Pre-Castro Cuba, circa 1958 the Latin dance beats are pulsating throughout the land. This movie is not as pulsating. Probably because it too closely resembles the movie it apparently prequels, 1987's Dirty Dancing.
In that modern classic, still beloved by women of all ages, older beau Patrick Swayze teaches Baby (Jennifer Grey) about the ways of dance and sex in the 1960's, which shocked and appalled her straight laced Jewish parents.
In this movie, Y Tu Mama Tambien hottie Diego Luna is a Cuban waiter who teaches hot Latin moves to blond, baby-faced Katey (Romola Garai)...which shocks and appalls her uptight American parents (Sela Ward and a pre-Mad Men John Slattery).
Luna and Garai do their best to look like they are loving the movie they're in, but even they seem to be aware they're trapped in a hotless mess.
