Review of Dirty Dancing (1987) by Paul R — 06 Jul 2011
One of those films that everyone has seen; at least four thousand times. Normally because some female relative (in this case my grandmother) insists on watching it fairly frequently. It's quite a nice feel good movie, in a way - about a girl, and a predatory paedophile.
Everyone in the world knows the last five minutes or so, and everyone has no doubt attempted to do some version of the dance whilst intoxicated. This film is fairly empty, there isn't a lot to the characters, there isn't a great deal to the storyline - there's just an amazing feel good ending and some moments in the film that appeal to the romantically inclined female.
Chuck in some great music, some talented dancers and the always awesome Jerry Orbach and you've got a surprise box office smash. Personally a bit saccharin for me. I'm of the opinion that we should be allowed to put baby in the corner; and ideally leave her there until she's grown up into someone less irritating.
