Review of Dinosaur (2000) by Henrik S — 05 Jun 2014
A pretty formulaic Disney foray into CGI. The early stage of this newly established art of animation shows in this film, especially against the (quite the odd choice) live-action backdrops. Sometimes it really does fit the bill but most of the time the staggering contrast between the animated dinosaurs and the real pictures just make the difference peel of the screen in a much more obvious fashion.
The story is pretty similar to The Land before time and most "Small Critter" films by Disney, Dreamworks and whatnot, following the story of a orphan "child" (as in pure yet unproven) facing his own destiny, finding his courage, overcoming fears, all the while inspiring others to do the same.
Cue the love interest, quirky sidekick, antagonist, elderly & loveable goofballs etc. Run of the mill. I am a big dinosaur fan so that was a bonus. The voicework is solid, but nothing to write home about.
Average animated kids movie to watch, but not a primetime feast.
