Review of Dinner at Eight (1933) by Jeffrey P — 03 Mar 2010
Star-studded soap opera has talented writers and actors, but not much momentum. Some funny lines here and there, Marie Dressler acts for the bleachers, and John Barrymore takes the plot into darker territory.
Cukor's visualization betrays the material's theatrical roots.
