Review of Diner (1982) by Brian M — 30 Aug 2004
Takes common themes like friendship and marriage and throws in a 1980s café to make it all feel new again. The movie transpires before the wedding of one of a group of tight-knit friends.
The type of ?a-week-in-the-life-of? movie that for a brief time shines a light on small town, USA. At its best, it?s an ode to friendship and youth. A John Hughes-styled movie made by Barry Levinson.
Kevin Bacon, Daniel Stern (Home Alone), and Paul Reiser (?Mad About You?) show up to offer familiar faces to the storyline. It?s an unrightfully forgotten 1980s film with heart, wit and a feel for young friendship and relationships.
