Review of Digimon: The Movie (2000) by Danielle M — 11 Aug 2012
The first time I saw this movie, I was stunned by its striking surreal visuals. They still stun me today. Please ignore the consensus above. The plot may be confusing, yet predictable, but the dialogue is very expressive.
The scene where Tai and Matt go to cyberspace is really epic. The defeat of an enemy is kind of nightmarish. He is cracked open and a clock appears surrounded by gooey black flesh. (Creepy) The cloudy picture quality of the animation adds a mysterious dream-like atmosphere.
The movements of every character are smooth and very realistic. The kids move like actors. I find the story to be empowering for kids. Although unlikely, it could be possible for two kids to stop a nuclear missile from destroying the world over the internet.
Besides the heart-shaking action, there is plenty of humor relating to everything from bad cooking to hitchhiking, to awkward birthday gifts, etcetera. Digimon is surreal, hardcore, exiting and witty.
There is nothing wrong with this movie. I find it hard to see why so many critics turned this unusual treasure down. LONG LIVE DIGIMON!
