Review of Dig (2012) by Robin L — 30 Jul 2007
I was listening to the Brian Jonestown Massacre (I have Dandy Warhols albums too) and was reminded how truly awesome this documentary is. The bands go from friends to enemies: one embraces stardom and ditches their morals along the way, the other refuses to sell out and founders in principled excess.
The twisting of the relationship is perfectly captured: in one scene, witness the skybound Dandys dropping in to exploit the skanky Massacres in a magazine photoshoot engineered to maintain their veneer of 'authentic' rock n roll kudos.
Pity the BJM for not grasping the nature of the music industry machine; pity the DWs more for taking its salty spurting medicine. An essential movie.
