Review of Die Hard 2 (1990) by Bradley W — 08 Jan 2012
Die Hard 2 was a much better sequel than I was expecting. Since the first is widely considered the greatest action film ever made , this had a lot to live up to, and overall, it stood its ground well. It was not better than the original but I was not expecting it to be, so I truly enjoyed John Mclane's second adventure.
The story follows John McLane (Bruce Willis) as he tries to stop another terrorist threat at an airport. McLane does not have good luck when it comes to being in the right place at the right time.
The plot of the film was better than I expected as well, but did not give the same memorable characters the first one did. I enjoyed what they had come up with this time as a terrorist threat and it grabs the audience with a very intense death scene that includes over 20 people, I was very touched by that scene and it got me into the story a lot. As for the characters, John is always just classic but the villain was nothing like Hans Gruber and it disappointed me, and everyone else including cops and soldiers were nothing to the emotionaly great Reginal Veljohnson who gets a cameo in the movie. Overall they keep the old characters great but the new ones were boring, and I really enjoyed the story and thought it was as good as the original, except for the characters.
The cast was very good but had a few mistaken performances, I do not know their names by heart but it just seemed like most of the supporting roles were just there to make Bruce Willis look good, and it works. Bruce Willis hardly ever disappoints, my farvorite role of his is Malcolm Crowe in The Sixth Sense but since at heart he is an action star I would say the role I remember him most is as John McLane, as do many others. Overall a decent cast but nobody really matters except for Bruce Willis.
The action was very good, but also a huge dissapointment. It did not have the edge that made the original so great, it just was the same action as the first but less of it. But I am being to harsh, it was a great action film, but I am a jerk and I guess that I have to compare it to the first, as a stand alone film, this movie had perfect action.
Die Hard 2 is a sequel that almost lives up to the original, which most sequels cannot do. You have to be a true action lover to appreciate the Die Hard films, and seeing as I am, I can just turn on a Die Hard film when its on TV, grab some pop, and enjoy a great flick. If you need an enjoyable and action packed 2 hours, I highly recommend this film.
