Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Tom S — 11 Jan 2010
This movie was ridiculous, this was the "batman and robin" of the bond franchise, it's even got mr. freeze! Alright, the locations aren't exactly glamorous or visually pleasing, most of the wide shots are so obviously CGI that they should have watched Planet Earth.
The look of the film is just bad taste, with that fake looking ice castle at the end, villain with diamonds in his face, lasers flying around, including from space - let's face it, this is a kids movie.
So it's not surprisingly, the stunts are ridiculous, not in the realm of believable (glacier surfing?) and indeed it was is impossible that they had to CGI the entire thing. It's difficult to remain on the edge of my seat when the hero has no real dangers because he is int he world of make believe where he can do anything - what makes things interesting is when the hero has limitations and has to win with those limitations.
I dont liek Halle Berry either, watching her feels like watching someone that is trying to act like a star, rather than her role. The one saving grace of this movie was that it was so bad that it forced a franchise reboot, bringing in craig, haggis and Campbell to make the the greatest Bond film: Casino Royale.
