Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Matthew D — 07 Jun 2017
The obviously CGI bullet that appears in the signature opening down-the-barrel shot represents much of what follows; insincerity, bad ideas and the stretching, nay, breaking of credulity. The rest of the first half hour implies a darker, more dramatic tone with an unexpected torture scene ingeniously laid over the title theme.
Sadly, with the appearance of Berry's Jynx the film descends into stilted one-liners, over-indulgent directing, and science fiction technology. This could have worked, especially with this cast, afterall there's nothing wrong with cartoonish Bond when done well and there's some fun and spectacle to be enjoyed, but it is far more miss than hit.
