Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Sally J — 26 Aug 2012
Pierce Brosnan's final mission as James Bond is awesome! I find this to be a very underrated Bond film, yes it has vast amounts of CGI in it and at times is a little far fetched but something fans are failing to realize is Bond was always ahead of its time and in the years to come this film will be more respected than it is now.
Brosnan gives his best performance as James Bond in this film. The opening sequence was thrilling but also gave us something we haven't seen before, Bond was tortured for nearly 15 months. It added more depth to the plot making Bond go on his own personal vendetta. Halle Berry was a great Bond girl, Jinx a secret agent on Bond's level, their teamwork was great as well as chemistry. The film's plot was exciting and showed some great and top notch action and espionage scenes. I also loved the references to the past Bond films such as showing Q's storage room showcasing previous Bond gadgets, as this film does mark the 40th anniversary of the franchise.
I really liked the film's story through the diamond plot and the ice palace and what not. The Aston Martin V12 Vanquish is no doubt the coolest Bond car since the DB5 (and it wasn't invisible it was camouflaged via tiny micro cameras reflecting the image it sees!) The climax aboard the plane was awesome as well as Bond and Jinx's escape. This film is underrated to say the least, there are far worse Bond films (Moore era films) but of course there are better. But Die Another Day is terrific fun and shows again Bond is ahead of his time in terms of in the film and the actual style and making of the film. Bond's 20th assignment/ Brosnan's final mission is savvy, stylish and intriguing as well as a great way to close the original James Bond series.
