Review of Die Another Day (2002) by Carl S — 26 Apr 2011
The 20th Bond film is seen either as a shabby quilt of worn out fabric, or as a brilliant mosaic. Many fans of the franchise will see it as the latter. The best gadgets, the best stunts, and every archetypal Bond character is brought together for this sublime 21st century culmination of everything 007.
Pierce Brosnan is in his element in his final turn as the British superspy released after a year in a North Korean prison and stripped of his 00- status. As he attempts to uncover the insider who sold him out, he encounters more excitement than ever before in his 40 year life as a hero of the silver screen.
From Halle Berry as a sexy, kickass American agent whose resume evokes the capabilities of triple-X (The Spy Who Loved Me) and whose bikini evokes that of Honey Rider (Ursula Andress as the very first Bond girl in Dr.
No), to a diamond smuggling villain who creates a space-aged super-laser (Diamonds are Forever), to the niftiest of all Bond cars which features a high-tech cloaking device: "Die Another Day" offers start to finish Bond flavored excitement.
In fact, if there's anything negative to be said, its that 2.5 hours of non-stop action has potential to be a bit tiresome.
